What Are Coping Skills?
Coping skills are strategies and techniques that help you manage stress, challenges, and strong emotions in a healthy way. Everyone experiences stress or difficult situations, and coping skills give you tools to respond positively instead of reacting in ways that may hurt your well-being.
Coping skills can help you:
-
Stay calm during stressful moments
-
Solve problems more effectively
-
Maintain focus and motivation
-
Build emotional resilience
-
Strengthen relationships with others
-
Take 3–5 deep breaths when feeling stressed or anxious.
-
Close your eyes and focus on each breath for one minute.
-
Try a 5-minute guided meditation or visualization before class.
-
Notice your surroundings—name 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear.
-
Walk or stretch for a few minutes between classes.
-
Try a quick yoga pose or stretching routine in your room.
-
Play a sport, dance, or do a short workout to release tension.
-
Take the stairs instead of the elevator for a quick energy boost.
